A primary cilium marker that detects Joubert syndrome and an emerging class of genetic disorders called ciliopathy. The reagent invented by Prof Gary Wong can provide test results in mere six hours and at a fraction of the cost of current technologies.

Portable Balance Scale was invented by Professor Jeffrey Cheung, which measures people's balance index to reduce their risks of falling over. By analysing the body's moving amplitude when it tries to maintain balance on an unstable platform, the specific index value can then be measured.

Fatigue Driving Detection and Alarm System was invented by Professor Cheung Yiu-ming, which uses a smartphone to capture real-time video of the driver, as well as detection and tracking technologies to analyse his facial expression and head pose. An alarm is automatically set off to alert the driver when symptoms of drowsiness are observed.

The research teams led by Dr Ren Kangning and Dr Edmond Ma from the Department of Chemistry developed a portable DNA-based device for on-site lead testing of drinking water. It is a portable lead ion meter and users just simply add the sample of a water droplet to a test strip and insert the strip to the device for the result.

To ensure people with dementia receive timely treatment, MIND and Tech aims to launch a detection kit for early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, providing a faster, more sensitive, affordable and less invasive way than traditional method of detection.
